Business Development Director, Eigen Ltd. UK
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in computing science from Aberdeen University, David Smith worked as a programmer for Ferranti Computer Systems, programming DCS (digital control systems), SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems and safety systems on installations in the North and Irish seas, gas terminals, power stations, refineries and chemical plants.
David progressed to project manager and managed several projects for the major North Sea oil & gas operators in Aberdeen before moving into business development. He worked as oil & gas sales manager for Honeywell in Aberdeen and introduced the concept of remote data access to offshore installations using historians for local and remote data storage.
David became global sales director for the real-time optimisation and advanced control group within Emerson Process Management, travelling to most areas with oil & gas activities and working on projects across all process industries, including thermodynamic performance monitoring of critical pieces of equipment on topsides and subsurface well monitoring for offshore installations. He then moved to OSIsoft Ltd., where he negotiated global enterprise agreements with several oil & gas majors, before joining Eigen in his current role.
