John Henley graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a Master of Science degree in ocean engineering and ocean systems management. This followed his Bachelor of Engineering (mechanical) degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Henley began his career with Mobil Oil Canada and gained positions with increasing seniority and responsibility throughout western Canada, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and the Gulf of Mexico. He has been immersed in many aspects of the business throughout his 34-year career in the onshore and offshore oil & gas industry, including offshore oil development on the Hibernia project; offshore oil transshipment and transportation; offshore natural gas project development and production; onshore and offshore construction; and offshore-related research and development. This experience has come while working with Mobil Canada, Hibernia Management Development Corporation, Newfoundland Transshipment, ExxonMobil, NORDCO and the Cahill Group.
Henley has held board positions with Noia and the St. John’s Board of Trade. He was appointed to the Regional Advisory Committee on Oil Spill Preparedness, the Advisory Board for the Atlantic Accord Development Fund and Marine Atlantic.
