Martin Sullivan graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in 1985 and an MBA in 1989.
Mr. Sullivan grew up in a fishing family in Calvert and started working in the fishing industry at a very early age. Since 1985 he has worked in senior management positions in the industry. In 2000, Mr. Sullivan and his partners founded Ocean Choice, which has grown to become one of the largest and most diversified seafood companies in Atlantic Canada, employing more than 1500 people throughout the region. The company exports more than 100 million pounds of seafood to over 35 countries throughout the world and has annual sales in the $230-$250 million range.
Mr. Sullivan has been actively involved in promoting the seafood industry and is an active member of many international, national and regional industry organizations. He is the past chairman of the Fisheries Council of Canada, a national umbrella industry association, and a founding director of the Association of Seafood Producers. He is an industry advisor to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans regarding the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) and an active member on the Association of Seafood Producers in Newfoundland and Labrador, Fisheries Resource Conservation Council, Fisheries Council of Canada, Groundfish Enterprise Allocation Council, Canadian Association of Prawn Producers, Seafood Value Chain Roundtable, as well as others.
