Siegfried Joiner graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.Sc Honours (geology with distinction) and the University of Calgary with an M.Sc (geology). He is a registered professional geologist in Alberta.
Joiner has 28 years of petroleum industry experience, starting with Mobil Oil Canada and ExxonMobil and later with Nexen, primarily in international conventional exploration. He has performed a multitude of different exploration roles, first in western Canada and later on Canada’s east coast.
Joiner has an extensive history in Nigerian development as a development team lead and later in exploration as an advisor. He has a long track record of success in the Gulf of Mexico exploration and appraisal. He was also the West Africa exploration manager at Talisman and drilled an exploration well as part of a new country entry in Sierra Leone.
Joiner has participated in a number of significant commercial exploration successes, first in western Canada, then in Nigeria and the Gulf of Mexico where he was a member of the successful Thunderhorse exploration and appraisal team. He went on to make significant contributions to additional successful exploration wells in Nigeria and the Gulf of Mexico for Nexen. More recently, Joiner’s Guyana team has had a string of exploration success in the emerging prolific Liza slope play.
